AntiVir Guard

Note: Please take care that the AntiVir Guard is Activated.
The AntiVir Guard watches your system and can intercept malware before it can do any harm to your machine.

Miscellaneous

Now have a look to the picture below:
Under Scheduler: use the Daily Update
You can chose to automatically scan your machine daily, if you want to do so.

Scan

Have a look to the picture below:
Since all preparations are done, chose the Option Scan system now

The best you can do to scan your system with Avira AntiVir is to do the Scan in "Safe Mode":

Reboot your machine into "Safe Mode" using the F8 key.
To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup
(before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate
and select the option to run Windows
in "Safe Mode",
as to be seen on the picture below:

Please close all applications, all windows, your browser, while scanning your machine.
Please be patient, the scan lasts some time.
Please move everything what is found on your computer to quarantine > Click 'OK'
as to be seen on the picture below:

Don't forget to cleanup your Avira AntiVir Quarantine once in a while.

Once the scan is done, click the Report button,
as to be seen on the picture below:

Notepad will open and show you a detailed report.
(As you are asking for help and advice on a supportforum, please copy&paste this report to your thread.)
Click the End button to exit the program.
Reboot your machine into Normal Mode once the scan is done.

If you want to see your scan report later once again,
Double-Click the Avira AntiVir Icon to open the Main Menu
Click the tab Reports > use your right mouse to highlight the report which you want to see
Use the Option 'Display Report file' to get your log,
as to be seen on the picture below:

Guideline

Please have a look to the picture below:
Normally Windows Security Center should accept Avira AntiVir
as a working and updated AntiVirus, but sometimes it doesn't...

If you get the red Warning Icon > open System Control
> open Advice (2) > chose manually control (3) > Click 'OK' (4)

Have a look to the picture below:
As Avira AntiVir is running on your machine, the umbrella MUST be open!

If the umbrella is closed, Avira AntiVir is NOT running.

Note: the first thing you could do to get rid of malware under Windows XP is: restore your operating system to a previous state - have a look here:

1.   Log on to Windows as Administrator.
2.   Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3.   On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
4.   On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system checkpoint in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next. A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
5.   On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
6.   Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page appears.
7.   Click OK.

If you are using any other Operation System or System Restore doesn't work, please ask for advice.
There is malware which can disable your AntiVirus Program.

Avira
presents a FREE data recovery rescue CD for download

Thu, 28 February 2008

Quote
Avira: Avira’s Rescue System includes burning software that can automatically create a bootable CD or DVD. It can boot the computer in an absolutely clean and safe operating system environment if a virus or other malware has caused a system crash. The current virus definition file will detect the current malicious programs and remove them. During the installation and use of the Rescue CD Avira does not require an Internet connection, this keeps the computer safe even if the network card or other online mechanisms are not working.

For more information and the Download-Link, please have a look to
