That is very common

when MBAM accesses  the file, then Avira sees it as bad

always let the antivirus quarantine such files, tehn if it is afalse alarm, it can be restored. Avira generally doesn't make many FPs though

Thanks Derek. I attempted to quarantine and Avira beeped, asked again with 'delete' checked. So I deleted file. I hope that's not going to cause problems. It might also still be in my quarantine?

Also, my computer is acting a bit quirky. When I close browser with multiple tabs and then re-open browser, I get message that firefox is embarrassed but it's having trouble re-opening browser tabs. I choose to start fresh each time. Also, when I start computer, Avira starts up like normal, but initially, the Avira window pane is black and so is my tool bar.  Also, when I open yahoo mail, there are emails shown as unread even though I've read them. I'm not sure if that's happened more than once or not.

Here is the mbam report.

try gmer now & see if it runs

if it won't then

Download SysProt Antirootkit from the link below (you will find it at the bottom of the page under attachments, or you can get it from one of the mirrors).

http://sites.google.com/site/sysprotantirootkit/

Unzip it into a folder on your desktop.

Start the Sysprot.exe program.

  • Click on the Log tab.
  •       In the Write to log box select all items.
  •       Click on the Create Log button on the bottom right.
  •       After a few seconds a new Window should appear.
  •       Make sure Scan all drives is selected and click on the Start button.
  •       When it is complete a new Window will appear to indicate that the scan is finished.
  •       The log will be created and saved automatically in the same folder. Open the text file and copy/paste the log here.

Update
I re-read the directions for gmer and saw that it said to REMOVE anti-virus. Last time I had disabled it as well as spyware programs. So... I removed all AV and anti-spyware.  I did see that it said 'all but one' but still removed all.
Tried to run gmer, it froze up twice.
I ran 'Cleanup', thinking it might help. I also became concerned that I deleted Avira because of warning it gave earlier.
I will now download Avira again, then try to proceed with second choice you suggested. Also, as I was typing this, Secunia popped up and said some program was installed, nothing I recognized. I opened Secunia but don't know how to retrieve message. I'm concerned it was something bad.
I apologize if my actions have made this more difficult.

Computer 'freezes'. I was trying to watch a show on Hulu and wasn't able to use keys for any functions. Couldn't close tabs, nothing. Couldn't use task manager, control alt delete, nothing.  So I used power switch and computer shut down. When I restarted it, the same tabs were open and show was still playing, even before I signed on.  This has happened at least twice. Otherwise, computer seems to be working well. If I can think of other glitches, I'll post them. I'm not awake yet.  Shocked

which browser were you using IE or FF

scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer and update whatever it suggests

Then pay an urgent visit to windows update & make sure you are fully updated,  that will help to plug the security holes that let these pests on in the first place

tell me what secunia tells you to update

It doesn't matter if you are using OE or not, if it is installed and it is installed by default, it is vulnerable

BUT it looks like Secunia is finding them in the backup install media

If you are up to date with windows updates, you can ignore those

RoboForm: Learn more...

You have come to The Spykiller for help because your Antivirus or Antispyware hasn't been able to fix your problem.

Modern Malware is so involved and difficult to fix that it takes a very long time and a lot of hard work to read all the logs posted here and research and prepare the fixes for you.
In many cases each part of the fix takes about 30 minutes to prepare, so a large part of my time is spent helping you

Would you do all this for nothing?
